Polyethylene PE
Polyethylenes are semi-crystalline thermoplasts and fall within the polyolefin category along with polypropylene. Their main characteristics are a low density and an excellent chemical resistance.
They also have a good level of wear resistance, absorb a minimal amount of water, and have non-stick properties. PE is also a good electrical insulator (unmodified types)
The following PE-types are available:
- PE-HD (PE 300)
- PE-HMW (PE 500)
- PE-UHMW (PE 1000) This group also includes ROBALON and ROBADUR materials
LD = low density, caused by high branching of polymer chains
HD = high density, caused by low branching of polymer chains
HMW = high molecular weight, high molecular weight polyethylene with longer polymer chains than PE-LD and PE-HD
UHMW = ultra high molecular weight, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene with extremely long polymer chains and high average molar mass
